German Shepherd Rescue Central Texas - Basil

Please read Basil's story:

Basil's story started with "free to a good home" on Craigslist, then tossed from a car. Basil’s had a rough time of it these last months- just last week, she was observed being thrown out of a car. A good Samaritan grabbed her to make sure she was not injured and then brought her to TLAC. Well, TLAC found a microchip and located her owner. He came down to the shelter and was horrified at what he saw. See, her owner gave her away, "free to good home on craigslist" a few months ago. Back then she was a healthy, happy young puppy. Now she’s thin, still heavy with milk from nursing and has some hairloss. The new owners assured him they would take good care of her.

Who knows what happened in those months, but like many of the animals given away so easily and freely we can only surmise that she wasn’t kept as a family pet. More likely used for breeding purposes and then thrown away like so much trash when no longer needed. Her former owner is not going to take her back. The folks he gave her to are not returning his calls – what a shock. So sweet Basil needs rescue help.

She’s a petite chocolate lab/pit mix-weighing about 30 pounds. Her enthusiasm and friendliness for people is heartbreaking considering what she’s been through.

Farrah's New Family Has This To Say

Update from Farrah's Adopter:

Just want to give you an update on Farrah. She is doing VERY well. She and our stray dog Cindy have both been housebroken and we have had no accidents for about a WEEK! YIPPEE! The pack is still sorting things out, and we have had minor dustups from all three dogs, no injuries at all. Farrah was so shy at first and was a scaredy dog when we did our first walk around the property. We take at least one walk a day with me leading the pack. The rest of the day, they are on their own to run free. We have some neighbor dogs some of whom are chained up. When we passed the one dog which was chained up near the back fence, it jumped and made a ruckus. Farrah RAN away even though there was a fence between the dog and her. It took me a long time to convince her it was OK to walk past it. She gradually got more bold, and now she is leading the pack in joining in the barkfest we have every morning at our back fence with our neighbor dogs.

Our Lab mix Max who you met, is the pack leader and loves to swim. Farrah has been his swimming buddy now and this morning they went for a pre-breakfast swim. Cindy is not so eager to get in the water. They all love to run around and chase each other in the house and outside. The problem is that Max is so refreshed when he takes a swim, he really is like a puppy again and has to run all over the place. Usually with Farrah and Cindy chasing him. I took some pictures of all the dogs and our place, and my wife will try and send you a link so you can see them. Once again, we are VERY happy with our Farrah. She is so sweet and is getting more confident and blossoming more into a real Terv and is showing more of their characteristics as the days go by. Unfortunately, she has decided that my wife is HER human first. I was Natalie's primary human, so I feel a bit left out now.

The two dogs sleep on their bed next to my side of the bed, and then Farrah will move to my wifes side when I go to sleep. Of course, she has figured out that I am the one to wake first in the morning, and I get licks to tell me it is time to get up and chase squirrels and Max. Myra, Sweet Myra, You've Got To Meet Her!

Myra's Update 8/23/09

This just in from a volunteer:
Myra is an amazing dog. She is absolutely, 100% full of pure love. And she is in love with tennis balls. Myra could spend all day dropping a ball in your lap and waiting for you to toss it to her. On occasion she will actually throw the ball to you! She is gentle and kind and will sit sweetly at your feet just hoping to get her head rubbed. She’s a bit on the chunky side, but that just means there’s more of her to love! Myra’s ears are soft and she loves to have them rubbed. Myra has stunning eyes and when you look at her it can sometimes be hard to look away because she projects all of her love through her amazing eyes. She would be a great dog for a person or family that loves to play ball with a fantastic dog.

I Love Samba!

Samba's Update 8/23/09

This just in from a volunteer:
Samba is a beautiful black dog that is full of life. He is full of beans and just loves to move his body all over the place to show how happy he is. His tail curves up and resembles a question mark. Probably because when he greets you he’s always wondering “What’s Up?” Samba is a very happy dog and he smiles when you say his name. He likes to zigzag in front of you when you take him for a walk, most likely because he is trying to take in as much as he can. He would be a great agility dog. Samba is eager to please and loves to “dance.”

Samba is an adorable German Shepherd Mix puppy. He is about a year old now and came to us along with his sister, Cha-Cha. Samba gets along great with other dogs and is having fun playing with his new friends in his foster home. He is neutered, crate trained, and working on his house training. Samba is ready to rock in roll into your life!

This blogger has personally spent time with Samba. He is an absolute joy to be around. Even with his canine friends romping about his focus was on me! So much personality!

More, New, Fresh News About Panzer!

Panzer's Update 8/23/09

This just in from a volunteer:
Panzer is a special dog. He is definitely full of love, but he has locked it away for a special someone. He will melt your heart but you will have to be willing to work with him. Panzer is absolutely beautiful. He has the most amazing colored coat. When he allows you to pet him, you will find that he is so soft, and you never want to stop petting him. Panzer needs someone to work with him to help him trust and unleash the love I know is in him. It won’t be a quick fix, but someone willing to put in the hard work for the long haul would benefit greatly from this boy’s love. I know he has it in him; he just needs to find the right person to show him that it’s okay to love again.

Panzer has done some growing. Please check back for new updated photos.Panzer is an 8-week-old 6-pound German Shepherd mix puppy. He is afraid of nothing and loves to run with the big dogs. He plays like he is a full-sized dog. He was named Panzer because he is built like a little tank and acts like he thinks he is invincible. Panzer has no issues, and is all about fun and play.

Panzer was returned to our group after an adoption that didn't work out. He is over a year old now. He is a beautiful boy, but something happened in his adopted home and he now doesn’t trust anyone but me, his foster mom. He will need a lot of work to learn to accept someone new again. This is totally unlike the dog we adopted out who was outgoing and friendly
with everyone. At this point he would be a project for anyone interested in him. Meanwhile I will continue to work on socializing him with new people.

More About Trinka

Trinka's Update 8/23/09

This just in from a volunteer:

Trinka couldn’t get any sweeter. She’s a bit more timid than the other dogs, but she’ll give you a big friendly greeting nonetheless! Trinka loves to surprise you with affection. She’ll sneak up on you and sit in front of you until she gets some attention! If you’re sitting down she’ll come up to you and put her head on your knee. Trinka wants all of your love, but she isn’t pushy about obtaining it. If something is going on, Trinka will talk to you and tell you all about it. She does her best to please, and has slowly but surely learned about sitting, and that it will get her more attention than jumping! Trinka is a doll and would be a great part of any family!

Trinka, German Shepherd dog mix, 10 mos. old, spayed female. She is heartworm negative and is good with other dogs, a very sweet girl. She likes staying close to her new foster and is definitely camera friendly! Trinka appears to be housebroken & crate trained.

We Hear From Our Adopters!

It’s been a few months, but I wanted to give you an update on our boy Axel (formally Amigo Duke). As you can see, he’s very handsome. Had him to the vet just this morning for vaccinations and physical and he weighed in at 84 pounds! Vet wants to see him down to 80 so we’re going on a diet. He really has turned into a sweet sweet dog. Extremely affectionate. When Dan leaves, he gets so stressed! We’ve been taking him in my car to an urban-retail-condo-apartment development type place in Plano on weekends for walks. His socialization has really improved. He has no problem with people but gets a little excited when other dogs are around. We have two female GSDs in the neighborhood who run in the park right behind my house. When Coco and Saga are out back, we take Axel back there, they run and play like crazy. We are really enjoying this guy and feel so fortunate to have him. He bonded so quickly.

Myra

Myra was living in her adoptive home for a year. Recently her owner was diagnosed with terminal cancer and is too ill to care for her. This is devastating news both for Myra and her owner. Myra is now back with our rescue group and seeking her forever home. Myra is around 4 yrs old, house trained, crate trained, and has the most amazing eyes!

Myra has amazing ball drive. She will flip a tennis ball into the air and catch it. Myra loves to play fetch and will bring the ball back to you. She will even drop it at your feet so you can throw it again. She is spayed, current on her vaccinations, and would make a wonderful companion for the lucky person or persons who adopt her.
