Diva-Available For Adoption

Sweet and sassy stunning sable searching fun loving family to snuggle with. She was found roaming around looking for food in an HEB parking lot, after much searching no home was found so the finder contacted our group for help. She is being fostered there.
Age: approx 1 yr old as of May 2012
Gender: female
Weight: currently underweight @ 45 lbs as of May 2012
Mix/Purebred: looks pure
Housetrained: assessing
Crate trained: assessing
Heartworm Negative/Positive:
Spayed/Neutered: will be at time of adoption
Micro chipped: will be at time of adoption
Good with other dogs: so far yes
Good with cats: not to good, too curious
Good with children: so far yes, good with all people
She absolutely loves to fetch and play! She is such a sweet and happy dog, you can see her smiling now that she has a loving foster home and more attention lavished on her. She is energetic and likes all people thus far. She has been good on a leash and good eating food; that is wonderful since she spent time without consistent meals. We think she may not be too good with cats since she chases them but has not hurt any, she may just want to play and be curious. She plays well with other dogs and likes to rough house and chase. Even though she is acclimating well, still she seeks a forever place of her own - maybe with your family? But don't wait to put your application in on this gorgeous girl, she will go fast!

Storm Is New To Our Group-Available For Adoption

Storm just arrived on July 3rd and is working in well with the other dogs and is curious and playful.
Name: Storm
Age: 1 yr. old approx.
Gender: female
Weight: will be an average size
Mix/Purebred: most likely pure
Housetrained: working on it
Crate trained: working on it
Heartworm Negative/Positive: negative
Spayed/Neutered: will be July 6, 2012
Micro chipped: July 6, 2012
Good with other dogs: still assessing but seems to play well with others
Good with cats: not tested yet
Good with children: not tested yet

Storm's training skills are lacking, so we will be working on things like leash training, mouthing and sit and stay. She came to us with LOTS of energy but being cooped up in a shelter can do that to a dog. She does not act like she has had much time in a home. We have high hopes for her since she is very smart and just needs to have some time to calm down and acclimate to her new surroundings. That is our assessment of her for the first 24 hrs. we have had her- check back for more updates about how great she is doing and her progress reports.

If you are interested in adopting Storm, please go to our website, copy, paste and complete our adoption application. Email the application to gsdrescuectx@yahoo.com.

Otis And The Wren

Leave it......
Good Boy!!

Monday, May 2, 2011

Dear Bessie ~

We are so glad your final days were good days with love & good food.
Rest in peace you sweet thing, this is for you:

SEPARATE LIFETIMES

We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan....

Recession-Proof Your Dog-11 Tips

Owning or adopting a dog can be expensive under any circumstances. Between the price of food, medical expenses, pet paraphernalia, training, and boarding, monthly budgets can shoot skyward with the addition of a four-legged friend to the household. But even in this time of economic crisis, you can find ways to care for your loyal companion without breaking the bank!

1. Medical expenses - If money becomes scarce, unexpected medical issues can present quite a problem. But just as you might take out an insurance plan for yourself or other family members, pet health insurance can help you carefully budget ahead of time the money that will go toward day-to-day healthcare, as well as any unforeseen problems that might arise in the future.

2. Grooming - If you don't already have a groomer you trust, consider checking local shelters or youth programs that may hold "Pet Washes" as fundraisers. And when push comes to shove, a bath at home followed by a towel dry and gentle brushing can be a wonderful way to show your dog affection after a long walk!

3. Low-income dog licenses - Some areas offer low-income families a leg-up on the fees involved in licensing their family pet in order to encourage them to register with the city. By filling out a few simple forms, you could be eligible to receive a discounted license for as little as $6!

4. Vaccinations - For vaccines that need to be administered annually, such as those for rabies, see if any of your local animal shelters offer clinics where those vaccines might be offered for less than they would otherwise.

5. Spay/Neuter services - In an effort to curb the overpopulation of pets, many organizations offer professional spay/neuter services absolutely free for families that cannot afford the procedure. For more information on these programs, visit SpayUSA.org.

6. Food - Be consistent in the portions you give to your dog and never give in to begging for extra meals or dinner table scraps. Overfeeding will burn through your stores of food faster, and a dog that's overeating is at a greater health risk than one on a balanced diet.

7. Dental care - You don't have to spend much to keep your dog's choppers pearly and white! Prevention is key. Consult your vet to determine the method of DIY teeth cleaning that best suits your dog.

8. Clip coupons! - Coupons are available in your local Sunday supplements for just about everything you could want, including dog food and even toys. And newsletters for dog lovers (ours included!) occasionally run promotions for products in the form of exclusive coupons.

9. Join the club! - The American Kennel Club (AKC) has a list of the National Clubs for many pure breeds of dog. Many of those clubs offer financial assistance programs to owners of those dogs.

10. Get ID - The recession has resulted in a rise in pet theft, according to MSNBC. Purebred and designer dogs are at higher risk, but no dog is completely safe. Keep an eye on your pets and be sure to make use of identification. Read about the pros and cons of five forms of doggy ID.

11. Have a heart-to-heart with your vet - Ask the staff in your vet's office about what financial aid programs, discounts, or deals are available in your area for people with your specific needs. It's a safe bet that they will have some ideas for you – they've been down this road many, many times!

Panzer Needs A Home Too!

Panzer was returned to our group after an adoption that didn't work out. He is over a year old now. He is a beautiful boy, but something happened in his adopted home and he now doesn’t trust anyone but me, his foster mom. He will need a lot of work to learn to accept someone new again. This is totally unlike the dog we adopted out who was outgoing and friendly with everyone. At this point he would be a project for anyone interested in him. Meanwhile I will continue to work on socializing him with new people.

Myra

Myra was living in her adoptive home for a year. Recently her owner was diagnosed with terminal cancer and is too ill to care for her. This is devastating news both for Myra and her owner. Myra is now back with our rescue group and seeking her forever home. Myra is around 4 yrs old, house trained, crate trained, and has the most amazing eyes!

Myra has amazing ball drive. She will flip a tennis ball into the air and catch it. Myra loves to play fetch and will bring the ball back to you. She will even drop it at your feet so you can throw it again. She is spayed, current on her vaccinations, and would make a wonderful companion for the lucky person or persons who adopt her.

Here's Myra as a puppy.
