Dog Philosophy, Human Perspective

When loved ones come home, always run and greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

 Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

Run, romp and play daily.

Be loyal.

Delight in the simple joys of a long walk.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

No matter how often you are criticized, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout. Run right back and make friends.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

Happy New Year From Cici & "The Girls"!

Forgotten Dog's Christmas Poem

'Twas the night before Christmas,
when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse
The stockings were hung
by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas
soon would be there

The children were nestled
all snug in their beds
With no thought of the dog
filling their head
And mamma in her 'kerchief,
and I in my cap
Knew he was cold,
but didn't care about that
When out on the lawn
there arose such a clatter
I sprang from the bed to
see what was the matter
Away to the window
I flew like a flash
Figuring the dog was
free of his chain and into the trash

The moon on the breast of the
new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day
to objects below

When, what to my wondering
eyes should appear
But Santa Claus - with eyes full of tears

He un-chained the dog,
once so lively and quick
Last year's Christmas present,
now painfully thin and sick

More rapid than eagles he
called the dog's name
And the dog ran to him,
despite all his pain

"Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now,
PRANCER and VIXEN!
On, COMET! on CUPID! on,
DONNER and BLITZEN!

To the top of the porch!
To the top of the wall!
Let's find this dog a home
where he'll be loved by all."
I knew in an instant there'd
be no gifts this year
For Santa Claus had made
one thing quite clear

The gift of a dog is not
just for the season
We had gotten the pup
for all the wrong reasons
In our haste to think of
the kids a gift

There was one important
thing that we missed
A dog should be family,
and cared for the same
You don't give a gift,
then put it on a chain

And I heard him exclaim
as he rode out of sight
"You weren't given a gift!
You were given a LIFE!"

Merry Christmas From The Cobb Pack!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF THE WONDERFUL FOLKS WITH DRIPPING SPRINGS RESCUE CENTER (aka German Shepherd Rescue of Central Texas)

Hi, it’s me Breeze

I just wanted to send you all my best wishes for a Very Happy Christ - mas Day. A lot has been ongoing in my short time with my forever family. In roughly six months I have been developing nicely (my peoples words).

I have learned what is my boundaries and how to protect them. I even scared a man off our fence a couple of weeks ago. I am not a good ball catcher but my people don’t care. They just like me to play with them. They throw the ball I get it and bring it back. They like that.
I also have learned a lot of commends and I did so with little correction. My man always hugs me and tells me what a good and pretty dog I am. I love my people going for walks with me. All the neighbors and their dogs are jealous I get to walk out on the side walk with real people.

I had to go to my Vet on Tuesday I was really hurting. It was my left rear leg. I almost bit my man person when he was checking it, it hurt so bad. Well my doctor checked me and put me to sleep while he x-rayed me I was out for a long time. I was funny when I tried to lift my head to see my man person and technicians.

What the doctor showed my man person on the x-ray was my hip socket and leg joint are not working properly and when the bones meet it was really painful. The doctor said I will be having a lot of problems in the coming years as I get a little older. He gave my man some pills for me to take (which of course I don’t like) and I go back to see him again next week. My people said they still love me and will do all that is necessary to help me.

I am a very Happy Dog. I really feel love and protected and I give back as much as I can.
I hope and pray you all are fine. I want you to know you have a forever home waiting sometime it just takes a while to find it.

May you each find the Joy and Love of the Season. A very special Thank You to Miss Bev and her people crews.

I still think about you but I am not missing you as much as I really am happy here in my family.

May God Bless You All
Breeze

Adopters Have Creative Minds-Read CiAn (Kiowa's) First Report At Her New Home

Hi Aunt CiCi,

I’ve had such an exciting day with my new forever family that I just had to write and tell you about it. My new daddy and mommy absolutely love me to death, and I love them too!

After you left, they took me to PetSmart. Wow! What an exciting adventure! Everything was so new – and somewhat scary, but I was a real trooper. I saw so many other dogs. Some came nose-to-nose with me, but I was such a good girl and didn’t even get overly excited. All of the nice people loved me; there must have been a dozen or more that came up to love on me. All of them said how beautiful I am. I don’t know what that means, but it sure sounded nice! My daddy and mommy bought all kinds of goodies for me – food, treats, dishes, pooper scoopers – you name it. They almost passed out when they realized they had to pay $50 for a “pet brush” but they know I’m worth it, and they’ve already used it on me. It felt so good!

Daddy took me for about a 30-minute walk earlier tonight. We even saw the beautiful Trail of Lights. What an adventure. Daddy couldn’t believe how good I was since I’m not really trained to walk on a leash yet. By the way, they have enrolled me in an 8-week class at PetSmart starting on December 19. The teacher was there today, and she was already so impressed with me!

I have to admit I’m having a little trouble understanding those funny-looking dogs that are so much a part of this household. They are much smaller than I, and they make strange noises that sound like “meow.” The whole family got a big scare when I was napping in my crate this afternoon and one of those funny creatures walked in front of me. I barked just like a real dog – not just one of those howls – and I think it really startled everyone. I think I just got frightened because I was closed in and didn’t know what to do. Since then, Mommy and Daddy have carried out several of those creatures, and we’ve all been pretty good about it. I also got real excited when Squeak came to the back porch. I now understand that she’s part of the family even though she lives outside. I barked at her quite loudly, but as soon as Daddy and Mommy took me outside to see her, I was o.k.

Daddy and Mommy keep telling me what a good girl I am. I tried to eat the angel off of the coffee table and baby Jesus off of the other table, but as soon as they said “drop” I stopped. I’ve already found out how comfortable the sofa is; they even have a “binky” on it that I can lie on. I also sat in Daddy’s lap in his special chair. The magazine they bought said that German Shepherds aren’t lap dogs, but I might prove them wrong!

I just had a yummy dinner, so I guess I’ll be going to bed soon. Daddy and Mommy are watching a movie called “Pacific” and I’m just totally wasted. I’m stretched out on the floor by Mommy’s feet but also real close to Daddy. They’ve told me I’ll have to sleep in my crate tonight so those other strange creatures can have their space, and I think I’ll be o.k. with that. I really enjoyed my nap in there today.

Oh, and by the way, I have a new forever name. My new name is CiAn (pronounced See-Ann). I’m named after the two people who made all of this possible – YOU and my Aunt Andrea, who hasn’t been able to come over to see me yet.

Thank you for helping me find my forever home!!!! I’ll see you soon.  I love you…….CiAn

Apple Cider Vinegar-The Only Way To Go!

Every home with dogs should have apple cider vinegar. It's a remedy with multiple uses for dogs: alleviating allergies, arthritis, establishing correct pH balance. You can also give apple cider vinegar to cats and horses.

Louise In Her New Home With A New Name-Layla

It has been about 3 months since we have taken in Louise. With her being separated from Thelma, we renamed her "Layla". She was very shy and timid, especially around men (something must have happened previously), and was a little scared in her new house and around 2 cats that weren't sure what to make of her. It has taken some work, but she has accepted us as her people. She has grown attached to me and, even more so, my wife.

She is still quite hesitant around strange people and dogs, but is getting better with each new introduction. She LOVES to go outside
and has twice daily walks, and we have been going to the park every week as well. She did well on a recent trip to

Houston and had a good time traveling downtown to see the bats. One of our cats, who had been around dogs previously, has adopted Layla too and they play together often. Layla and our other cat are still working a few things out. She is very sweet around the house, and will come up to let you know it is time for her to get some attention.

She has learned a few new tricks and commands, and has become, as promised, a very special addition to our family.

Thank you for everything!

Our Little Autumn's New Name Is Smokey

Smokey was checked out by the vet and he said she is very healthy and looks great other than URI.  Her new mom says she has had no accidents in the house, sits when told and now pottys when told outside.

She is a huge hit with all the kids in the neighborhood and enjoying more attention and loving than any dog could want. They had been concerned because one ear wasn't up and I assured them it would go up and that didn't take long.  She went home Sunday and the ear is up already.  She is a great pup and in a home where she is appreciated and loved.

Just wanted to share these pictures with you, this weekend was our first trip on the boat with Kaiser he really enjoyed himself.

Koa (Kannon) Adoption Update

We felt it was time to genuinely say thank you to all that you did to help us find the two newest members of our family. As you know we recently adopted Koa (Kannon) and Hula (Salsa).

It has been over a month and we wanted to give you an update on how they are doing. It took Koa about ten minutes to feel comfortable in our house. It helped that Hula (his buddy) was there too. Koa and Hula play all day long. It is a fun thing to watch and be a part of. They both go to the park at least once a day for training and fetch. Kim takes them for some short runs. Hula isn't quite ready for long distances. But they sure have fun. Koa behaves. And Hula behaves because Koa behaves and we are just so happy to have them in our house. They do well with grandmas, grandpas and small kids. The only problem is Koa is a bit curious of our cat. (scared). Our cat can be a bit territorial.

About once a week they play with other dogs in the neighborhood or at the very least go to petsmart to smell all the animals and treats! Here are some photos. Please feel free to share our forever family story. Thank you again as these two precious puppies have totally rounded out our family.

Sincerely, Kim, Todd, Caleb, Koa, Hula, and Monkey (the cat)
