Photos Of Our Adopted Rush ~ Now Named Duke & It Fits!

Some will remember Rush ~ his adopters named him Duke and here's what they have to say about their Easter together!
Duke is doing great, we haven't weighed him lately but estimate he is somewhere around 80lbs. He is very long and lanky and we figure he will weigh at least 100lbs when he fills out and is fully grown. He is extremely intelligent and probably the smartest puppy we have ever had. He is also very sweet and gentle. (This is Rush/Duke shortly after being adopted)(Blogger note: This photo is Duke prepared for his first Easter egg catch):He has grown a little since then, his growth seems to be slowing a bit. Will send more recent pictures soon.

Success!

Kelila Now Known As Zoe! This Just In From Her Adopter

She has changed so much from the day I brought her home and she is learning so fast. In puppy training class, they taught the "Leave It" command on the 4th week. I really wish they taught us that on the very first class because she picked it up after one class.

Now she leaves shoes and anything else that may be on ground when I tell her to leave it. She was 100% potty trained in 3 weeks.

I no longer use the crate any more and give her free run of the house and she doesn't chew or destroy anything ... well other than her toys.

R.I.P. Little Levi

Little Levi took a turn for the worse after his short rally. He has made his trip to the wonderful park in the sky. Please consider still making a donation to cover the costs of his surgery, and 2 day stay at the animal hospital. Any amount will be graciously received.

To my animal loving friends, please read the following story about Levi. German Shepherd Rescue has pulled this little guy from Town Lake Animal Center only to find out he had a problem. If after you read this you can find it in your hearts and your wallets or pocketbooks to donate $5, $10, $15 (more or less any amount will help), please send your

Tax Deductible Donations can be mailed to:

Here's his story:

Well it is has been quite a ride for our little guy Levi the last few days - since German Shepherd Rescue got him he has gone down hill, refusing to eat even though she has tried everything and so she took him into the vet. They put him on on IV and cath. But today another vet looked at him on his visit to have a CTscan and said he needed exploratory surgery and after finding out we could not afford to pay the $1300 bill for that he donated the surgery and his time plus cutting other costs in half!!

Levi pulled through, which as weak as he was we did not know if he would even be able to handle the surgery itself. He came through fine but the vet had to remove about 4" of his intestines due to some sort of blockage. Not exactly sure but may be caused by some nasty parasite. Poor little thing suffered so long with the stomach blockage and not being able to eat that he is very weak and extremely emaciated at this point but if he survives during the next three or so days he has a good chance of being a healthy dog!!

Levi has to stay in the hospital for a few days still plus the costs at German Shepherd Rescue's vet prior to surgery.

The Daily Dog Tip-Brought To You By Dogster!

Mats and tangles are not becoming to say the least and can cause painful pinching and pulling against your pet’s skin. (They also mean an achy wrist for the one doing all the brushing.)
Unleash your inner groomer by making daily brushing part of your dog’s routine fur treatment.

Brushing helps prevent tangles and clears away loose hair that would otherwise shed, only to end up around the house. Daily grooming helps your dog maintain lush shiny locks and a soft coat by distributing the natural oils that keep your pet’s fur healthy.
(Blogger note: it's also a great way to bond AND check for any changes to the health of your dog [i.e. lumps, hot spots, etc.])

Tiara Has Found Her Furever Home!

Boone Has Been Adopted!!!

Listen up! Boone is a great puppy, alert and sweet but he is hesitant to trust humans. We are looking for the perfect someone or a family that is willing to take the time and has the patience to convince Boone the we humans have a lot of good things to offer him! Boone would prefer an active yet calm household. So, if you are looking for a puppy but you're not sure because puppies can be such a handful. Boone is your boy! He is a Labrador retriever/German shepherd mix, about 5 months old. He's up-to-date on vaccinations and is neutered.
One of our volunteers was able to get him to come to her everytime she called as long as she had a "valuable" treat (i.e. liver treats, cheese, peanut butter) to motivate. Because he IS highly trainable with these high valued treats, he has the potential to be a good agility dog and he learns easily & quickly.

He also likes to cuddle when he is tired but, is independent when he is outside and playing. He learned to sit at the back door and ring the bell when he needs to go out but is still working on house training. He is one of the easiest/mild mannered dogs we have ever taken in. AND he is a GREAT camping buddy to boot!

Boone's coat is so soft and his eyes so warm it will be worth every effort put forth! He is an easy walker on a leash and his temperament is not dominant so if you are looking for a gentle, lovable, companion Boone is your guy! Plus he has got great markings which make him a one of a kind dog!

We have to say again that Boone is a calm, sweet, easy going pup that is curious and playful. He is being crate trained and actually enjoys being in his crate. He loves collecting lots of toys in his crate too. He is alert but does not bark a lot. He likes to lay in the shade and take it all in.

If you are interested in adopting Boone, please go to our website, copy, paste and complete our adoption application. Email the application to http://www.blogger.com/gsdrescuectx@yahoo.com
