Sweet and sassy stunning sable searching fun loving family to snuggle with. She was found roaming around looking for food in an HEB parking lot, after much searching no home was found so the finder contacted our group for help. She is being fostered there.

She absolutely loves to fetch and play! She is such a sweet and happy dog, you can see her smiling now that she has a loving foster home and more attention lavished on her. She is energetic and likes all people thus far. She has been good on a leash and good eating food; that is wonderful since she spent time without consistent meals. We think she may not be too good with cats since she chases them but has not hurt any, she may just want to play and be curious. She plays well with other dogs and likes to rough house and chase. Even though she is acclimating well, still she seeks a forever place of her own - maybe with your family? But don't wait to put your application in on this gorgeous girl, she will go fast!

Storm just arrived on July 3rd and is working in well with the other dogs and is curious and playful.

Storm's training skills are lacking, so we will be working on things like leash training, mouthing and sit and stay. She came to us with LOTS of energy but being cooped up in a shelter can do that to a dog. She does not act like she has had much time in a home. We have high hopes for her since she is very smart and just needs to have some time to calm down and acclimate to her new surroundings. That is our assessment of her for the first 24 hrs. we have had her- check back for more updates about how great she is doing and her progress reports.

Redford's Ready To Be Neutered!

I can’t believe it has been a whole MONTH since Mr. Redford has been with us! He amazes me everyday with his kindness.

He is a big, clumsy guy but with the sweetest heart. He could easily be bitter and untrusting from all the bad things he survived, but he is neither. He is happy for even a small head pat. He comes running if you mention his name. And if you think you can get away with ignoring him, he’ll make sure you know he’s there.

He is fully settled in at his foster home. He gets along with all of his foster siblings, and knows the daily routine like the back of his paw. Red is convinced that he’s a lap dog, and has to be reminded that only his head is lap-sized! He loves to chew up every toy he can find.

His favorite things to chew are tennis balls, or balls that make squeaky noises. Red still loves treats and knows where we keep the cookie jar; he makes sure that he gets some cookies before bed every night.

His fur is looking better every day, and he’s got lot of hair coming in on his once bare tummy, it almost seems like it appears overnight! The steroids worked wonders and his skin is no longer inflamed and irritated.

He loves having fresh water around all the time! He does this little hop-skip run when he’s happy, especially when he’s getting ready for dinner. He wags his tail all the time, because he’s so happy!

Sometimes I have to be careful around him because he’ll whip me with his tail! Red has such a funny sense of humor. He wants to play and be in my lap and just be close to people and his four-legged foster siblings.

Red is such a sweet, intelligent dog. He just wants to play and have his yummy food. He’s a beautiful dog on the inside, and it won’t be long until everyone can see it on the outside!

Update On Cadet!

Update 8/13/09:

Cadet is a very sweet, beautiful dog. She LOVES to be at your feet. Her owner passed away and there was no one to care for her so she went to the shelter. Now that she is out and with her foster family she sailed through her heartworm treatment with no trouble at all- she is a tough girl!

She is a low to mid energy dog who is calm inside and has a nice energetic spirit outside. She LOVES to be groomed and get all the attention she can.

She was not an inside dog but has NEVER had an accident inside the house - we take her out for her potty break and she goes right away. She plays great with the other dog in the house but she is still learning to share toys and attention as she has never had a lot of either. She is highly trainable and eager to please, she has just never had anyone take the time with her.

She is learning basic obedience commands but has mastered the most useful, ones like come, sit, down, wait etc. She understands and responds quickly to a firm "no" and will come right away for a rub on her tummy. She walks great on a leash and only wants to please. She goes into her crate when told to and sleeps through the night with no problems.

She has great house manners. She has never torn up anything but is monitored by a stay at home mom during the day. She is a confident dog but has a little anxiety when left totally alone in the house so we have crated her each time we leave and are working with her on being more calm when alone. She responds well to training and is a VERY smart lady!

She is great with the kids in the foster house, letting them pull on her and hug and kiss her. She is a very loving dog. She loves to go for car rides and she rides very well with no whining or barking but has gotten sick two times, maybe it is was the way foster dad drove ; ). She does not bark excessively but will alert you if someone is coming with the typical one or two barks. She likes to meet new people and go on outings.

Cadet would be a great companion dog for even a beginner dog owner! She makes you smile when you look at her, her expressions are very sweet and she is ready for her forever family.

Cadet is a sweet female German Shepherd. Her foster mom has noticed that Cadet learns quickly. She is a little shy when you first approach her and will flatten to her stomach, but then she rolls over for a tummy rub.

She is learning to come when called and wags her tail when you call her. Cadet is good at waiting by the door to come in, instead of busting through it as soon as you open it. She's working on the sit and down commands with quick progress.

She loves to be near people and sit at their feet. Cadet likes to play with toys and is learning to go in her crate when told. She protests very little about being put in her crate and sleeps through the night perfectly. She likes to explore outside but loves the indoors best.

Cadet loves attention and is great with kids. Her foster family has a 1 year old shepherd and two kids (age 7 an 9). Cadet does great with the kids and she is learning how to play and interact appropriately with the other dog in the house.

We've Got a Beauty Coming Into This Rescue ~ Trinka!

Trinka's a German Shepherd dog mix, 10 mos. old, spayed female. We don't know a whole lot about her, except she's gorgeous! We don't have much to go on, but stay in touch ~ we'll keep you posted!

First update: Trinka is heartworm negative and is good with other dogs, a very sweet girl. She likes staying close to her new foster and is definitely camera friendly!

UPDATE July 10, 2009 General is doing well & will start his HW treatment soon. This sweet boy is housebroken, crates well, walks nicely on a leash, has learned to use a pet door, gets along GREAT with other large & medium sized dogs of all temperments, & has nice house manners. He likes to look on the counter, which is easy for him, but so far has not tried to snatch anything. Although he lived as a yard dog before coming to rescue, he obviously was an indoor pet at one time, & would love to be again. At first we thought General was a very dominant male, because of his relationship to Cadet, but he is more content to just get along with the other dogs. Has not reacted negatively, even to a bit of a challenge. He does need a strong leader because of his size, but he would fit in to just about any household. We don't know about cats. He was in close quarters with a small dog at the vet, & paid little attention to it. Won't you give this sweet boy a chance?

Now Huey Is Growing

New Photo of Calypso aka Callie

Calypso ~ aka Callie was covered in ticks and malnourished, in fact emaciated. She was dumped and barely surviving with her pups in a junk yard with 30-40 feral dogs. She is so very sweet and gentle. She has had a very rough life and seems so grateful and appreciative of any kindness and comfort she gets. She is heart worm positive and will be treated asap. I need to build her up and let her gain some weight first. When I got her she didn't know how to walk on a leash and was very insecure coming inside and walking on floors. Clearly had not done that before.

Calypso now loves coming in the house and enjoys the comfort of her crate with a fluffy quilt to lay on. She takes treats very gently and wants to please. She lays on a dog bed and acts like she is afraid to do anything that might get her in trouble, but is getting more relaxed every day and now just looks at the other dogs showing no sign of aggression to them. I think she has great potential to be rehabbed into a wonderful companion. You can see the joy in her in just having a safe comfortable place to lie down.

Callie is spayed, current on shots and micro chipped. It will be a while before she is well enough to be adopted, as needs that HW treatment. That will give time to build up her confidence and get her use to living the good life.

New Photos & New Dogs

Banjo is between 1 1/2 -2 years old. He is neutered, has shots and is micro chipped. He is very sweet, loving and gentle. The folks who found him said he is okay with cats, other dogs and kids. I know he has done well with other dogs at my house. He is very cooperative and wants to please. Very nice boy.

Meet Calypso aka Calli. This sweet beauty came to our group with her puppies. Calli was covered in ticks, malnourished, and surviving in a junk yard with her babies when she was rescued. She is so grateful and appreciative of any comfort that she gets. This blogger has personally spent time with Samba. He is an absolute joy to be around. Even with his canine friends romping about his focus was on me! So much personality!

WHITE GSD NEEDS A NEW HOME

Maya is just about 2 years old and is at the vet today getting her shots, heart worm test and spay. She is very sweet, ignored cats at her previous home and was very gentle and good with kids. She is ok with other dogs and lived with 3 other females there. Her previous person said she is house trained and crate trained, rarely barks and is a loving smart and full of life gorgeous lady.

Bridget Found A Home

We've named her Bridget and I think she's sort of learning it. She was pretty nervous the first night but didn't make a sound in her kennel. She still pees herself if we make too quick a movement to pet her or pick her up but hasn't had any accidents in the house other than that.

She and Niko are getting along perfectly as well. They spent a good hour wrestling and playing tug of war with a rope toy last night and he lets her drink from his water bowl so they're good. She's really smart too! She's learned "outside" and "kennel" in just two days, which I think is just amazing. So all in all, she's good. I think tomorrow is going to be the big test because we're having the roof re-done so it'll be pretty noisy but both James and I will be home all day so hopefully it won't scare her too much.

Samba

Samba is a adorable German Shepherd Mix. He is about a year old and came to us along with his sister, Cha-Cha. Samba gets along great with other dogs and is having fun playing with his new friends in his foster home. He is neutered, crate trained, house trained.

Samba loves to play with his people. Ever hear about dancing with the dogs? He's make a great, happy, cooperative partner.

Huey is a purebred German Shepherd puppy, about 5 months old and growing fast. He will be an extra large boy when he is fully grown.
