Suki Update

Suki wasn't with us long, here's her brief story: "This dog was hit by a car, she has been treated and recovered from her injuries.  Her family left for Germany and she has been at a vet clinic for awhile, now in boarding".  Suki was adopted before making it to our website ~ great update!

Hello,
I just wanted to let you know how incredibly happy we our with our new family member. We just celebrated our 3 week anniversary of adopting our wonderful little girl, "Suki." She is perfect for us: intelligent, kind, caring, observant, energetic, playful, respectful, and of course not without her adorable imperfections (we're working on the "not jumping up like an excited jack rabbit when we come home" response currently, even though it is absolutely adorable!).
Every day I tell her she is "the best dog in the whole wide world" and I believe that with all my heart. She is enrolled in our first obedience class which we will begin next Wednesday (we're sooo excited!). Our plan is to complete several general obedience classes, to get our Canine Good Citizen certification thingy, and then to move onto agility which I'm certain our energetic little "spring-a-ling" will love.
We go walking/hiking daily and have already begun off-leash work over at Walnut Creek (under our close supervision, of course). We also make it a point to socialize her with other dogs, people, bicyclists, and horses (I'm a horse trainer) and she has taken everything in stride like a champ. She is excellent with other dogs, a little timid but curious about the "big dogs" that mommy rides (the horses :) ), and has been very good with people of all ages, shapes, and sizes (including children).

All in all, we love her and could not be happier. She is a work in progress but is coming along so well and so quickly and we couldn't be more proud of her. Thank you so much for your help in finding the perfect addition to our family and please let us know if we can do anything to further support your rescue. I cannot express how thankful we are for all you have done and for the opportunity to adopt "the best dog in the whole wide world."
A million thanks, (adopter)

R.I.P. Luger~Your Family Will Miss You

My friend’s Older Years
Welcome to My friend’s Older Years, please take your time and enter one step at a time. My name is Cass and my friends name is Luger we would like you to sit back while we take you on a short journey thru are time spent together. Are journey starts around the time when things had gotten bad for Luger and we didn’t know why?
Luger how are you feeling today I asked? Well Cass I am feeling really tired and I do not have an appetite today. Well Luger, are you sure this isn’t due to something that you ate last night? No, I am sure it is a feeling of exhaustion and maybe nothing more. Well just to be sure I will make you a doctor’s appointment and make sure that you are alright. That will be fine with me since I do not like being in this condition. I cannot enjoy playing catch with you or even laying in the grass on those nice warm days just talking about life.

The next day comes and Luger and Cass make it to the doctor’s office. Luger is very nervous about his visit to the doctor’s office. We are placed in a room and wait for the doctor to enter. Upon entering the room the doctor asks how are things going and Luger responds that his appetite is not quite what it should be and that he is very tired. Hmmmm, says the doctor and looks at Cass to see if it’s ok to run blood work on Luger. Cass responds that it is ok and the doctor leaves the room and a intern enters the room and takes blood from Luger. Luger asks the intern is this necessary? Yes replies the intern this is a great way for us to see if you may have a virus or something else going on inside of you. After the blood is drawn the intern leaves the room and doesn’t return for quite awhile.

During that time Luger looks at me and starts to cry, I ask him what is troubling you. He responds, what if something is going on inside of me that they can’t fix. I told Luger that no matter what is going on that I would be there for him as a good friend should be. He told me that he was very grateful to have such a friend like me. You know there are days when I come home and I see your smiling face and everything seems alright.

Well about that time the doctor re-enters the room and informs us that Luger has some kind of virus that she cannot pin point and wants to send him to another doctor that has more experience than she does with this type of problem.

We agree and head over to see the other doctor, upon arriving we just hold each other and say that everything is going to be alright. We enter the doctor’s office and wait in a room until the doctor arrives. He enters the room and introduces himself and says that he would like to take some x-rays of Luger to see if something might have been overlooked. The intern enters the room and asks Luger to follow him he turns and looks at me and I tell him that things will be alright. About 30 minutes pass and Luger returns and they say that we can go home and they will contact us once the results have come back.
We headed out for home and stopped by the park just to walk and talk about what it means to be friend. Well after that day we received a call from the doctors office and they informed us that Luger was very ill and he is probably only going to be around for another 6 to 8 weeks.

After I hung up the phone I informed the rest of the family and we just sat together and cried and asked ourselves why Luger. Well after trying different medicines we decided to stop using all of those medicines and rely on prayer. It has been 7 months now and Luger is still with us and doing well, I guess it just goes to show you when all else fails just trust in your faith.

Wonderful Update - Asia

Well, I have to tell you we have found the perfect dog. Asia is an absolute joy and she is doing great. She is such a sweetheart and is so well mannered. She loves life and it is so clear everyday that her heart is pure gold. We brought her home on a Friday night. By Saturday afternoon it was clear that she had figured out that this is her new yard, home and family. This is a picture of her with Joey and Isabella. As you can see she is quite shy...hah!!!

Thank you for bringing us together.

Toby Was Adopted In 2010

We really love getting updates about our adopted dogs. Here's one from friend's of the people that adopted Toby:

I have been meaning to contact you for some time – but you know how time gets away from us. Just wanted to let you know that Toby, adopted by the Walker family in San Marcos, is a very happy boy. We spent the weekend with the Walkers in August of last year and got to hang out with him. His best friend is Prince, a miniature apricot poodle. They play like crazy. They were both digging in the flower bed near the pool and getting dirt in it, but some hardware cloth with lava rock on top saved the pool, the plants – and Toby and Prince! His favorite place outside is just under the living room windows that look out onto the yard. He has rearranged some of the bushes on his own to create just the perfect pad. Inside, he loves the couch (of course) and sometimes even his dog bed. He looks very healthy and happy. I am very active in GSD rescue in Colorado and I know how I worry about these guys, so I thought you would like to know how he is doing. He looks just like my first GSD, so I am especially attached to him. Keep up the good work.
