Report From Beau's Front Porch!

Hi Debi, can't believe it has been a full month now that we have had the great Beau. He is doing so wonderful, I have been taking more photo's and even got a video of him dancing around Aly when she got home from school. She said she was going to try and upload it to the website so everyone could see him.

He is doing wonderful, has no anxiety about my leaving - just watches with Sugar through the window. He doesn't follow me everywhere all the time now and just plops somewhere until he wants to go out. He will sometimes just go out and hang out on the porch, not wanting to come in. He really makes us laugh with some of his antics when he wants something - especially his "talking" which you will see in the video. He has started barking at the cows now when they come too close to the fence, and looks back at me like "I am protecting you don't worry." He is however, so gentle with Sugar and our old cat Patches and of course my grandson. I haven't been able to get Marek to stay still long enough for me to capture a photo of the two together.

Mia still has her jealous times, but she actually walked in and licked his face and wagged her tail at him yesterday. He still doesn't trust her though and will avoid her, as she will slip whenever he puts his paw on me or Aly to go out - she doesn't like that at all and gets banished for her growling. But she is sooooo ready for him to come outside and play with her and turns around in circles everytime I let her out - just thinking he is going to get to come out too. I guess we have four more weeks to go per the vet, the middle of Oct.

I am enjoying him so much but the waiting is difficult (before I can walk him and start taking him to classes). But I do love the companionship he gives me daily and that he gets me up and away from the computer.

Hope all is well with you, there are so many out there needing rescue it is hard to see all the photos. Have you taken in another one yet? Both my daughters post the new dogs as they come up on their facebook pages and I keep sending them to my friends - hoping they will know someone who will take one.

Here a little update from the new family of our Celeste, their Raina:

All is going well…Raina had her first teeth cleaning at our vets and I’m hoping Rick took some pictures while she was drugged up…she was hysterical. She’s gained 6 lbs since we’ve had her and the vet wants to keep her at this weight. My son says she looks perfect now…looks intimidating, but perfect.

She’ll have her grooming next week so we’ll take a bunch of pictures of her and give you the Raina update. She’s not too sure of the grooming truck yet, Rick had to stay with her the last time to keep her calm, but otherwise she did well. The groomer said she’s a good and beautiful dog.

Our neighbors crack up because we have a mobile groomer come out to bathe her, brush and blow her out, trim her nails, and pretty her up. They see the Bark Avenue trailer pull up and this big German Shepherd come out of the house into the trailer and comes out all fluffed out and pretty.

Hana (We Knew Her As Ebony) Has Something To Say!

Dear Bev,
It's me...Hana! I know we've not seen each other since your big birthday surprise, which was awesome by the way, and I wanted to let you know how my new life is treating me. Mom and Dad went on something called a "trip" a little while back and a really nice lady named Olga took care of Chase and I. I could tell that mom was really nervous before leaving and I was too. Chase and Daddy did their best to make mommy and I both feel better about the whole thing. Miss Olga was really fun lady and came by our house three times every day that mom and dad were away. We played, took fun walks, and snuggled a lot! She was really nice... Chase promised me that mom and dad would soon be home, so I tried not to be too sad. When mom and dad finally came back, we had the best time hugging, snuggling, and sharing lots of kisses!!! Now, our family of four is back to normal and I love it!
Mom and dad keep asking Chase and I if we are almost ready to play in the snow over Christmas. Bev, what's snow? Chase said it's this cold stuff you rub your body and face into that's really fun. Have you ever done that? Anyways, this "snow stuff" is over in a place called Arizona where my new grandma lives. I can't decide what I'm more excited about doing. Meeting my new grandma, seeing snow, or going on a really long car ride. (I love car rides!) On our way to grandma's house, we are going to camp again. We camped a little while back with some other humans that mom and dad said "are like family" and it was really fun. Their tiny human, named Gracie, and I really enjoyed one another's company. She even shared her roasted marshmallows with me! Those things are really tasty, you should try them. I'm not sure if mom told you but I haven't really been able to break, what mom calls a "bad habit", of digging in the trash. (I still don't understand why she doesn't see the fun in it. But that's okay.) So, she came up with the next best thing. In order for me to get me my "fix" she gives me the soymilk containers to tear apart. It's AWESOME! I get to make a big mess and not get in trouble. When you try the gooey marshmallow things, you should try this too. You'll thank me...

My new mom, dad and doggie brother really love me and say how special I am all the time. My days are filled with hugs, kisses, naps, walks, play, and tons of love. Daddy says that I was a wonderful gift from above for mommy. She was really sad and missed my doggie sister before me. I didn't have a chance to meet her, but Chase said that she was an amazing soul and that she and mommy shared a really special life together. I feel very lucky to have a chance at a special life together with both mommy, daddy and Chase. I want you to know that all of this has been possible because of you Bev. Thank you for believing in me and giving me a chance. I know I wasn't easy to deal with at first, but you saw the real me. You gave me an amazing life...and I will be eternally grateful.

Thelma Shows Us All-Never Give Up & Never Give In!

Thelma came into the group pretty shy, but with her sister's (Louise) help she did really well in her pack environment awaiting adoption.

People came and went until "the girls" were adopted together into a family.

After a year or so, low-and-behold the family was going to relocate to a state across the ocean. Did they want to take "the girls" with them? Well, no, that sure was a lot of trouble. What with vet arrangements, documents, crates, airlines ~ blah blah blah.

Thelma, shyer than before, showed signs of having been ignored. Less trusting of people, hanging back, and cautious. Louise was doing okay, and was adopted nearly a year after having been returned.


Now it's Thelma's turn!!! She's gone to her new home, a little timid still, but hopped into her new family's vehicle like she knew it was time to move on!



Here's what a volunteer has to say about this adopion and the German Shepherd Rescue's founder:

"Thelma actually [can] blossom and she has. Thelma is a bit more of a velcro dog who loves to be loved but is a bit shy since she will feel a bit more out of her "Beverly-safe" comfort zone. Beverly is such an ole softie - her GSD Rescue is her baby - and she's been doing the hard stuff and making hard decisions of who lives or dies based on GSD looks. She's failed in the purebred [by rescuing the mixed breed] a few times - but thank G-d for her because they are all worth it. And Thelma - the beautiful sweet heart deserved to live and Bev knew it and kept her. I'm thinking after over two years with her - she will miss her. Bev is my hero and I love her - but don't tell her that - she'll think I'm soft....." ~Anon volunteer

The adoption events worked for both Thelma and her sister Louise to find their forever homes. I am both sad and happy for her.

I do miss her, she was with me a long time, but so glad she is in a home where she is the center of attention. They have one cat and Thelma ignores the cat who is not pleased by invasion of a K9 new family member. I talked to her new mom yesterday and they said she is doing great. Follows new mom everywhere and is slowly warming to her new dad who is jealous that Thelma seems to prefer the wife. He went on and on about how beautiful she is and is totally smitten by her. I think in time she will love him as much as the lady. Thelma was so easy to live with and such an excellent all around dog I am thankful people came along and recognized what a treasure she is and love and appreciate her as she should be loved. Some take a long time, but so worth the effort in moving them to the home they deserve. Bev

The Hartz Mountain Corporation Recalls Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats Because of Possible Salmonella Health Risk

The Hartz Mountain Corporation is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats for Dogs due to concerns that one or more bags within the lot may have been potentially contaminated with Salmonella.

Hartz is fully cooperating with the US Food and Drug Administration in this voluntary recall. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, all of whom are at particular risk from exposure and should avoid handling these products.

Salmonella symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea in both dogs and humans. Anyone experiencing the symptoms of Salmonella infection should seek immediate medical attention. Owners of dogs exhibiting these symptoms should also seek veterinary assistance.

Hartz Mountain Corporation is recalling 74,700 8-oz bags of Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats for Dogs, lot code BZ0969101E, UPC number 32700-11519, which were imported by Hartz from a Brazilian supplier, Bertin S.A., and which were distributed to a number of customers in the United States. While regular testing conducted by Bertin (prior to shipment to the US) did not detect the presence of Salmonella in any packages of this product, random sample testing conducted by FDA did indicate the presence of Salmonella. Hartz is aggressively investigating the source of the problem.

Although Hartz has not received any reports of animals or humans becoming ill as a result of coming into contact with this product, Hartz is taking immediate steps to remove the product from all retail stores and distribution centers. Dog owners having purchased this product should check the lot code on their bag, and, if the code is not visible, or if the bag has lot code BZ0969101E imprinted thereon, they should immediately discontinue use of the product and discard it in a proper manner.

Consumers can contact Hartz at 1-800-275-1414 at any time with any questions they may have and for information on how to obtain reimbursement for purchased product.

Remember Kaiser (Taiko)! Here's What His Adopter Has To Report!

Just a quick update on our boy. I believe that he is 100% now and is acting 100% like a puppy.

He is now getting into everything like the trash cans and closets. However he has not been destructive except last week I went to pick up Cassie at the airport and the airport is only 20 minutes away so I decided to leave him and Caesar in the bedroom block in by a baby gate this is the way we sleep so I thought it would be a good test run.

Well got home and he found the bike helmet we had bought for Kennedy’s birthday there was Styrofoam all over the bedroom. He is still not happy with being brushed daily or he thinks it a game.

Him and Caesar are getting along great Kaiser is starting to use his paws like hands when playing with Caesar and is trying to hold him in one place, Kaiser still has not figured out that Caesar is 135 lbs and goes where and when he wants.

Today Kaiser did figure out one thing, how to open the door between the garage and the house now he can go into the house when he wants just one thing I wish he would close the door after himself. Well that’s it for now have a great day!
