From the rescue's director: I know that a lot of you weren't with me when Dolly was adopted as a pup over 6 years ago, but it is so good to hear about her I had to share and her pictures with the chickens are priceless. Makes a sunny spot in my day to get this email. Dolly was (and is) as her name says a doll. GSD/Chow mixes are often the sweetest dogs I have known.
From Dolly's Adopter: Hello. I am not sure if you remember me but I adopted a dog from you awhile back- Dolly.. A german shepard/chow mix.
I just wanted to let you know that she is doing great still out here in Johnson City on her mini ranch. She has been a wonderful dog and mommy to my Daughter and her chickens. She loves to swim in the river and the vet said at her recent yearly check up that she is the healthiest 6 yr old he has ever seen.
So I am writing because I wanted to thank you again for letting us adopt Dolly from you, as she has proven to be a wonderful dog, well socialized with other dogs and children... and I know I can attribute that to your efforts for the time you had her with you when she was a puppy.
Attached is two pictures of Dolly now with her new litter of chickens from this season. She loves the chickens so much she lets them ride around on her back as she walks around the yard. My older dog died and we have recently added a new Vizsla puppy member, which she has taken under her wing as well. She is a great mommy.

Here's An Update 4/23/10:

She loves to play catch with herself with the talking ball and the squeaky ball...we tried to get a picture of it, but we weren't quick enough because we're laughing too hard. She loves her yard, which she enjoys patrolling and waiting for the horses to walk by so she can run the fence line. She's curious about the pool, but has not attempted to get in yet, she just likes drinking from it for now. We think she's settling in now and knows this is her forever home. We tried to get a picture of her laying on her bed on the chaise lounge by the pool, but the squirrels were tormenting her so she would not lay still.
Tiara is a sweet girl with lots of personality. She likes to be held and loves to explore outside. She is learning quickly to share food and toys as she had little opportunity in the harsh conditions she was rescued from. She is soft and cuddly and sleeps in her crate through the night without trouble. She is a smart girl who can learn quickly.
Louise will come and pet you with her paw gently when she wants attention. Louise is smart and loving and will make an excellent companion for someone who wants a smaller dog.
Thelma is quiet only barks when someone is coming in the yard she doesn't know. She is easy to live with and doesn't force herself on her human, but will come sit in front of you and gently put her paw on your leg when she wants to be petted. If you ignore her she will walk away and lay down. You could not find a more loving gentle companion than Miss Thelma.
Thank you so much for working with us to adopt our puppy, Kiba. He is doing very well so far and we are so happy to have him in our home. He is such a smart puppy and is learning so fast. He is coming along with house-training (he still has some way to go), and has learned several commands. He has been doing "Sit" since Friday and "Lie Down" very well since yesterday. He is also doing very well on the leash so far. We are very proud of him and the success and intelligence that he has demonstrated thus far.
She will soon get her heartworm treatment and once that is done she will be ready to go to her new life with a family that will love her and give her the training, love and attention she needs. She is an excellent watch dog and will alert and look tough, but once in the yard and she sees a new person is ok with her folks she is very sweet and friendly. Brees will make an excellent companion for the right person/family.
