Mandy Update

"She has completely benefitted from her training. She is so fantastic on the leash now and listens very well. She walks right beside us and does not even acknowledge other dogs or people while walking. Kelly took her to the dog park a few weeks ago and she played very well. So whoever said she was untrainable clearly is on something. =] We absolutely adore her, she is spoiled rotten to say the least. Oh and she loves frisbee, not catching it just yet but she's so close!"

Update: Destiny Now Kiya

Andrew and I thought you'd enjoy a couple new pictures of Kiya. She's doing spectacularly, all things considered. We're looking forward to the day we don't have to chastise her for getting excited! In the mean time, she's taken well to looking out for the kittens... Grooming them is quickly becoming her favorite activity. Napping alongside them is a close second!

Hope all is well,

Rocket's Been Adopted!

Rocket came to us the week of June 18, 2012 so we have not had much time to assess him but the shelter says the following about him:

He is a big goofy puppy who loves to play and is good on a leash. He is great with other dogs and keeps his kennel clean. He loves the water and is very smart. He is respectful to cats (not sure that means he loves them though). He is a people pleaser, well-mannered and a perfect companion for a family. Overall he is a big sweetheart. He is currently up to date on shots and ready for puppy class...which he would make an A+ in with a little time and one on one attention...any dog is waiting for that! Won’t you give him a chance to be part of a loving family?

Name: Rocket
Age: young pup, 10 mos. as of June 2012
Gender: male

Weight: 73 lbs. as of June 2012

Turbo is a fun and loving sweet boy who was found lost in the country with a belt around his neck, hungry and afraid. The lady that found him was able to gain his trust with food, shelter and love. Turbo is the kind of dog that likes to follow his human around and develops a strong bond. He seems to listen to women better than men, but likes everyone equally. His ears perk straight up on occasion and he loves people!

Turbo gets along well with cats, chickens, ducks, goats and horses. He loves to play with other dogs and is very energetic, but will calm down with told to. Turbo is house and kennel trained and does not chew shoes or mess with things in the house. He adjusted very well to being a house dog.

Name: Turbo
Age: Estimated 1 year old as of May 2012
Gender: Male
Weight: 37 lbs as of May 2012, underweight
Mix/Purebred: Mixed
Housetrained: Yes
Crate trained: Yes
Heartworm Negative/Positive: Negative
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Microchipped: will be at time of adoption
Good with other dogs: yes
Good with cats: yes
Good with children: So far yes, good with all people

Turbo is learning to sit and shake and his leash manners are coming along. He is very smart and willing to learn. He rides quietly in a car and comes immediately when called. You can't ask for better manners than that at this stage and age and we see lots of potential in this cute boy!

Brooke was adopted 3 years ago, but was returned back to the rescue because the owners were not home enough and did not have the tolerance or time to work with her shyness. Seeing the error of their ways, they came to the painful decision to give her back so that she could find a family with the time and patience to give her the love she needs.

Name: Brooke
Age: a young 4 1/2 - 5 years old
Gender: Female
Purebred or Mix: Mix
Houstrained: Yes
Cratetrained: Yes
Heartworm Negative/Positive: Negative
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Micro chipped: Yes
Good with other dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes
Good with children: Yes

Today, Brooke is not the overly shy, nervous girl that initially came to her foster home. She is a sweet, happy but somewhat reserved girl; content to lay by the window or outside when her foster family is out, go for walks and loves car rides. She still startles easily at unexpected loud noises but comes quickly when called so she can be reassured that everything is all right. She also is hesitant when new people come to visit, but given time, usually comes up to them and gently asks for a pet by softly giving a lick on their hand or arm to get their attention.

In the few months that her foster family has had her, she has come a very long way. Before, her owners said that they couldn’t take her for walks because she was scared of everything, everybody and every noise. Now, she easily walks or jogs alongside her foster sister(s) and is eager to be outside and see the sights. Brooke loooooves to play with other dogs - big or small. She misses her rumpus time with the other foster dogs who lived there until they found their furever homes (her foster sisters are a little too old and don’t play so much anymore).

She is well mannered, good with all dogs and children, is housetrained, is not destructive, gently takes food from your hand and will sit patiently to get her treat. We have not figured out exactly what makes her cute little lazy ear stand up but it does sometimes. It is only one of her more endearing qualities.

Brookie-Brooke just needs a patient, gentle and loving owner who wants to lavish her with kindness and love... she is ready to give it in return!!

Katya Is Beautiful And Available For Adoption!

Katya's owner dumped her at the shelter because she had an injured tail and she did not want her anymore. We pulled her from the shelter and she was taken right to the vet. The vet's decision was to amputate her tail because it could not be saved. She now has a little stub but she is much happier and now much healthy too.
Name:Katya
Age: 4 mo
Gender: female

Weight: 35 lbs as of June 4, should be regular to larger size female
Mix/Purebred: looks pure bred
Housetrained: working on it
Crate trained: working on it
Heartworm Negative/Positive: negative
Spayed/Neutered: will be at time of adoption
Micro chipped: will be
Good with other dogs: good and playful
Good with cats: not tested yet, young and can be trained
Good with children: not assessed but good with people

She came into the rescue on June 4, 2012 with Delilah and so as we get to know them we will post more information. Feel free to email but don't wait too long if you are interested as she is a sweet girl and we can already see what a wonderful girl she will be.

German Shepherd Mix-Delilah Is Available For Adoption

Name: Delilah
Age: puppy, 4 mo as of May 30, 2012
Gender: female
Weight: 25-30lb w/ small frame, will be small shepherd
Mix/Purebred: mix with possibly Australian Shepherd
Housetrained: working on it
Crate trained: working on it
Heartworm Negative/Positive: negative, too young
Spayed/Neutered: will be at time of adoption
Micro chipped: will be
Good with other dogs: timid and shy, still assessing
Good with cats: can be trained at this age
Good with children: still assessing

Delilah was originally with some people who kept her in an apartment with little to no socialization. Then the apt manager would not allow her to stay. She has not been socialized with other dogs or people and she is timid and scared. We have worked with dogs like this many times before and have seen that with time and proper care and training she will probably come out of her shell and be a great family companion in no time at all. Puppies are very resilient and can learn very quickly given the time and attention they need. Puppies in general need lot of your time so be ready if you plan on considering adopting a puppy.
Her markings are striking with different colors of sable, red and black. She has a smooth and somewhat fluffy coat. She might be mixed with Australian shepherd since she has a stubby bobtail. She probably won't get over 50lbs but that is a great size to do obedience training or agility or just having a lap dog.

Update:
Delilah still would not approach our weekly volunteer dog walker today but did sneak up to give him a lick before running away. She now needs attention from others to get past her fears, but she is making great strides. Delilah could us a volunteer walker every day to help get past her fears and be ready for a forever home. Please consider coming out to take her for walks, grooming, or taking her along on an outing running errands. She really needs the socialization!

Please email or check back and see changed we post as we get to know her more. We have only had her in our rescue for 1-2 days of June 4, 2012.
If you are interested in adopting Delilah, please go to our website, copy, paste and complete our adoption application. Email the application to gsdrescuectx@yahoo.com.

Diva-Available For Adoption

Sweet and sassy stunning sable searching fun loving family to snuggle with. She was found roaming around looking for food in an HEB parking lot, after much searching no home was found so the finder contacted our group for help. She is being fostered there.
Age: approx 1 yr old as of May 2012
Gender: female
Weight: currently underweight @ 45 lbs as of May 2012
Mix/Purebred: looks pure
Housetrained: assessing
Crate trained: assessing
Heartworm Negative/Positive:
Spayed/Neutered: will be at time of adoption
Micro chipped: will be at time of adoption
Good with other dogs: so far yes
Good with cats: not to good, too curious
Good with children: so far yes, good with all people
She absolutely loves to fetch and play! She is such a sweet and happy dog, you can see her smiling now that she has a loving foster home and more attention lavished on her. She is energetic and likes all people thus far. She has been good on a leash and good eating food; that is wonderful since she spent time without consistent meals. We think she may not be too good with cats since she chases them but has not hurt any, she may just want to play and be curious. She plays well with other dogs and likes to rough house and chase. Even though she is acclimating well, still she seeks a forever place of her own - maybe with your family? But don't wait to put your application in on this gorgeous girl, she will go fast!

Storm Is New To Our Group-Available For Adoption

Storm just arrived on July 3rd and is working in well with the other dogs and is curious and playful.
Name: Storm
Age: 1 yr. old approx.
Gender: female
Weight: will be an average size
Mix/Purebred: most likely pure
Housetrained: working on it
Crate trained: working on it
Heartworm Negative/Positive: negative
Spayed/Neutered: will be July 6, 2012
Micro chipped: July 6, 2012
Good with other dogs: still assessing but seems to play well with others
Good with cats: not tested yet
Good with children: not tested yet

Storm's training skills are lacking, so we will be working on things like leash training, mouthing and sit and stay. She came to us with LOTS of energy but being cooped up in a shelter can do that to a dog. She does not act like she has had much time in a home. We have high hopes for her since she is very smart and just needs to have some time to calm down and acclimate to her new surroundings. That is our assessment of her for the first 24 hrs. we have had her- check back for more updates about how great she is doing and her progress reports.

If you are interested in adopting Storm, please go to our website, copy, paste and complete our adoption application. Email the application to gsdrescuectx@yahoo.com.
