We love LOVE L-O-V-E Hearing From Our Adopters!

Prada wasn't with our group for very long. She has a wonderful "forever" home now and she's adjusting well. (Note from blogger: I'd be napping a lot too if I walked as much!)

From Sachiso's people:
In reviewing Prada's paperwork we saw that her name used to be Sachiso we went back to that. We have a love for Japanese culture and Mikela is fluent and we thought that this name fit her well. It means child of joy. A joy she is.

We have gotten her on a routine of long walks morning and night and a short walk (being about a mile) in the afternoon. We also play with the hose in the backyard and we have been working daily on her manners. She has come a long way since Wednesday. She has met her brother cats and we are still working on harmony in the house. But I think everyone will adjust just fine.
Here are a few pictures from our past few days. We had our first bath
at Dirty Dog and you'll notice a theme of sleeping as she adjusts to all this walking. We notice her stamina picking up over the weekend. We adore her and thank you so much for the opportunity to meet this lovely lady and bring her into our home.

Miley Was Adopted Recently. Here's What Her New Family Has To Say

Just thought you guys would like a Layla update....

She is doing so well and has settled quite confidently into her new home. She's gotten quite feisty when she wants attention. We're doing better on the potty training but I'm still working on having her come over and putting a paw on our leg to let us know when she has to go out. She's got sit, lie down, shake, heel, get the ball, get the carrot all down pat. She loves to play fetch and is so super at sniffing things out when she loses sight of them. Like my first shepherd, we have found she likes to hide her precious things. We are finding bones in the weirdest places inside and out.

She is a good little swimmer and is getting better at socializing. She barks up a racket at other dogs and runners but I have been taking her to dog friendly restaurants and to Town Lake and she is getting so much better.

We got her a gentle leader harness and I don't know how I ever did without one. She has lost most of her baby teeth now and we got her nails trimmed up so we are less bloodied and she is the biggest snuggler. Mark gets a huge kick out of the fact that she loves to sit on our feet. In fact, she loves to sit on everything...planters outside, our heads, other dogs, my laptop...who knows. :P

Here are a couple shots from the past several weeks. I may have sent a few already but can't remember. If you are ever this way, give me a call...I'm sure she'd love a visit! ~Layla's Adopters

Hi ~ It's Me Again, Breeze!

Hello to my extended family and hope you are all doing fine. I hope you are finding you Forever Homes and Families. I believe I was really lucky when I picked out my new forever family and home. My people really love and work to understand me. I enjoy the comfort of a quiet (most of the time) home. My people don’t raise their voices very often so when they do I know it’s time to behave. I have trained my female person to keep me in treats. I go to the treat shelf and make a little noise and she is a softie (heh heh) I get a treat. My male person isn’t so easy, I have to earn my treats from him. The good news I have to report is that I am Heart Worm Free.
Thank you to all who treated me during the rough days. My man person took me to my Doctor this morning and they tested my blood again and it came back negative isn’t that great news? I know it had to be as my man was very excited and hugged me up real good. When we got back home my female person was really happy for me too. Both my people parents said they are very glad that the rescue centers got me treated when they did otherwise it could have been really bad. I want to thank you all for taking care of me when I was sick and helping me get healthy again. You people at the Rescue Center are the BEST.

I’ve learned to be better with Lucky and CopyKat. She isn’t a fur ball to me anymore. She is sort of beginning to trust me and I think I am trusting her more than when I first met her. I don’t make noises at her nor do I chase her like I used too. I think my people are happy with us about that. Lucky and me made a pack not to fight or get mean with one another. I think I’m still jealous of her and she me but it’s working out pretty good.

I really love my forever home and yard. There is loads of room to run and play. I’m learning a new game called catch the freezbie. It’s a small round thing that my man and lady people toss and I’m supposed to run jump and catch it before it hits the ground. I must be learning it pretty good as I get some extra treats and it doesn’t hit the ground so often anymore.
My man person is working with me on something called heel. He wants me to learn to walk beside him and my lady person without pulling. I’m supposed to sit on his left side or the lady’s left side when they stop walking. My man person said he is teaching me this because I got the stay thing down really good. That is when I’m told to sit and stay (it means don’t follow or walk away) I get a reward for doing this also.

That is it for now I hope you all are behaving and helping out with new arrivals so the people can get the chores done.

I just had to write and tell you all my good news about my Doctor visit this morning.

Love and miss you all.

Sasha aka Sashina's Adopters Are One Happy Family!

Just a quick hello to tell you that Sasha (or Sashina as we affectionally nicknamed her) is doing great! The three of us went for a walk yesterday. She walks really well. We're working on sitting to be let out of her crate/for meals/waiting at the door for me to enter first and she picks up very fast!
She and Tucker seem to have worked out the growling issue around rawhides. They now switch back and forth between each other's rawhides and toys. She alerts nicely when someone is at our fence. No accidents yet and she's already learned where to go when I say lets go "outside." Also working on the mouth around Tuckers neck issue but overall it just looks like a rough play thing. Every once in a while she gets a little carried away and Tucker gets annoyed. Tucker isn't capable of getting mad so he just nips back (in a whimpy way) and then runs to mommy =)
She's learned she's not allowed on the couch so she's picked out a fave spot between my couch and my ottoman. I bought her a bed with her name monogrammed on it to put it there when it arrives.
Obedience class starts 9/23. She has a vet appt Sat for her Bordatella vac to attend class and to order her Heartguard and Comfortis. Then she's all set!
So...we've been busy in just a few days time but she has been a great addition to our family. I'll try to get some pix to ya this wknd.
Thanks again for saving such a wonderful dog, for all y'alls support, and most of all for doing such an awesome job with Sasha. The three of us are forever grateful!

Taiko Before Adoption ~ Kaiser After Adoption!

Taiko Before Adoption

Kaiser After Adoption
With His New Friend!
From Kaiser's family:
Just wanted to share this week’s happenings with you. Kaiser seems to be getting over his cough and is really acting like a puppy. Running, jumping and pouncing, he is running around the place like a crazy man, jumping in and out of the pool like he is in a competition to see how many times he can do it in 30 seconds and pouncing on the grasshoppers after he has hunted them down.
He is learning the routine of being brushed before the morning walks. He no longer sleeps in the kennel. Last Saturday he started to sleep in the bedroom, the kennel is there however he just walks into it and then finds the memory mattress at the foot of our bed more comfortable. He is demanding more attention by the day he loves for you to get on the floor and play with him.
Lastly I think he has gained more weight he is eating about five cups of food a day we feed him twice a day.

*Jack (Marco) Is Learning How To Relax In His New Home*

This just in from Jack's (Marco's) adopters: Just thought I'd send you an update on Jack. He is doing incredibly well considering his young age and has firmly integrated himself into the family.
At first he didn't want to go outside alone. I think he was frightened that we would leave him. Now he he goes out readily to potty, splashes in his pool, and sometimes chooses to stay out for a while. He knows that when he comes to the door he will be let back in.

The one thing we wish is that he would relax a little more around here. Just kidding.

Beau Used To Be Our Zulu! Read What His New Family Has To Say!

Our Beau is doing so well, progressing all the time into the family. He has now taken over monitoring Sugar's outside activities. He usually finishes his business first and then he just sits down in the shade and watches her til she is done then they come back in together. It is cute, but sad that his only current friend is a termite. I got your package today, you are too funny. My daughter, her husband and the baby came for dinner tonight and we were all sitting outside before they left and he was sitting there with us. My grandson just loves him and hugs him continually, and tonight Beau licked his face, so Marek was in seventh heaven. He went up to everyone wagging his tail, and just was so relaxed like this was an everyday occurrence. He never seems bothered by being outside, just sits there staring around at everything.
Mia is going to be a good teacher about the cat. When I was bringing Beau back in, he saw the cat and walked over to him I think just to smell, but Mia didn't like that as Ozzie is her best bud so she growled and snapped at him and he backed off. The funny part was, Mia walks over to Ozzie, smells him all over to make sure he is alright, then starts licking his face. It was hysterical, as though he was her baby and Ozzie was just laying there eating it up. But she herself has play-attacked him as though she were going to kill him, but never leaves a mark on him. Just grabs him with her paws and pins him down. Really strange, like siblings I think "I'm the only one that can beat him up, not a stranger".
He is in a routine now, I gave him a rawhide today because he was a little more demanding in the attention department then yesterday. I was worried about how Sugar would be treated if she approached, but he just moved her away with his nose when she tried to lick the bone. So now she stays away from him when he is eating it. but he never growled or acted possessive. He is actually even more mellow than Whisper was with her and more patient. I have been leaving them alone in my room when I am going back in forth outside and they will both sit at the baby gate and watch and wait. Too cute.

Yes he is just perfect!! Everyone in my immediate family that has met him is in love with him. Hoping all is well with you.

Our Young Tiara Is Growing Up Sasha!

This is Tiara when she first came to our rescue group.

Tiara started getting more comfortable at her foster home.
Here's what Sasha's family has to say about her:

Sasha is doing very well. She no longer has to sleep in her crate at night and roams the house during the day - we put in a doggie door and she picked up going through it very quickly. She loves going for car rides and walks. We walk every evening for about 30 minutes.

She is getting so big - I took her to the vet to get her toenails cut (which she doesn't like at all) a couple of weeks ago and she weighed 45 pounds. The only thing we have not quite conquered yet but are working very hard at is nipping at fingers and jumping up on people. She has gotten much better though. I have gone through at least 5 chew toys - she loves them and better she chew on those then on my stuff :) She is an absolute joy and we love having her as part of our family. She is finally starting to bark and growl when there is something in the backyard that she doesn't like.

Here's Sasha now

Breeze Is Breezy!

Hello all ~ hope you are all finding forever homes and families. I have very positive things to tell you about my home and family.I am learning the little ins and outs of keeping my man person and lady person happy with me. One area I still require working on is my phobia with CopyKat – we just haven’t clicked yet but we are doing better. I don’t push into her space and she stays out of mine. I do alert when she comes into view and this causes Lucky to get on me as Lucky and CopyKat go way back as friends.

Me and Lucky like to play and romp around the yard. Lucky teaches me a lot of neat things like walking without pulling, staying near my people when off the leash in the backyard. I like going for walks around the neighborhood and this is good also for my man person.
I think I like my lady person best – she is easy to get spoiled by. My man person is more direct. You know the best part of being here in my home is I really feel loved and wanted. My people really work hard with me and I give back in doing what they are teaching me. We play ball and I got to pick a ball off a vine in my man’s garden he told me this was something called a cantaloupe and not to go in the garden anymore. Than him and lady person started laughing they were going to take my picture with this thing but I didn’t hold it long.

By the way my man said that our Rescue People put stories on the web page for all to read. They even had pictures of us. I think that was nifty.
Well that is it for now from my forever home here in Killeen.
Love and not sure if I miss you as much as when I first came here. But I still miss you okay.

Notes From The Breeze

Hello everybody
I just had to tell you about the new collar and leash my new mommy gave me. It is pink because I am a female. I go back to my new vet Dr. Joyner in about 2 – 3 weeks I think I was told 13 August for my final heart worm checkup. My new parents got me flea stuff and heart worm medicine. I also get some neat treats when I am good which is most of the time. I get along with Lucky pretty good now and I try not to grab all the food. My dad tells me no, bad dog when I take more than my own. When I hear no, bad dog I know that I no treats for me so I like hearing good dog than I get treats.

Well since I last wrote to you I have been training with a leash on me but since I’ve been being good I don’t have to have the leash on me unless we are going for a walk. I still get a squirt every now and again because I still think chasing Copy Kat is nifty. Truth be told I am kind of nervous of her because I still haven’t figured her and my space but I am learning.

I am going to put a picture or two so you can see me and how big I am. I weigh over 80 lbs. I am getting pretty tall too. Well I added more than two but I hope you like them. My dad uses a telephone to take my pictures isn’t that silly you are supposed to use a camera.

Well I guess that is it for now I’ll write again another time okay. Bye talk to you later. ~Breeze Henning
